Rajasthani applique work
Applique – is a French term. This traditional technique has been used for centuries in India, and in particular in Gujrat and Rajasthan. In Barmer district, located 550km southwest of Jaipur (Rajasthan) and 220km from the border with Pakistan, groups of Marwari women carry out this traditional work during the hottest hours of the day. After taking care of the herd, they settle in at 38°C in the shade of their house to carry out this traditional work of sewing and application to produce decorative objects for the home and clothing. They use a piece of solid textile on which they place cutouts in the shape of animals or geometric shapes and then sew them onto the fabric.
Poonam's House uses these skills to produce tablecloths with intricate designs. Part of the collection was produced with colored threads to highlight the geometric patterns and produce exquisite tablecloths.
